The words below are excerpted from a presentation made by Penny Hess
Chairwoman of the African People’s Solidarity Committee
at the APSC National Plenary Conference in 2013
Every starving child,
every war,
every bit of suffering on the planet,
every rape,
every Trayvon Martin…
Every suicide in India or on the Lakota reservation,
every baby that dies of curable disease or in childbirth,
every child that is forced into labor or to fight a war somewhere
…is directly rooted in this process of primitive accumulation.
The reality of the history of what it took to build
and maintain this parasitic system of capitalism
is boiling up
just under the surface of
every discussion,
every uprising,
every cop killed by an African,
every so-called ‘robbery’ of a 7-11,
every suicide bomber in Gaza…
This same question is there.
It is not over.
It has deepened.
It’s there, it’s alive.
It’s coming home to roost.
It is there
because we are still living on the pedestal
of their oppression.
When you scratch the surface,
everything we have comes from violence:
colonial occupation,
imperialist war,
genocide,
enslavement,
working people to death in mines,
rape of children,
The degradation of African people that happens every hour
of every day in this country.
There is nothing benign or save-able about capitalism.
There is no kinder, gentler capitalism.
It is a bloodsucking parasite.
Capitalism must go.
